Does anyone else find it impossibly hard to find a well-fitting jean?
I don’t even think I have that unusual a body shape – slim-ish legs, wider hips and a normal/slim waist – but on the high street I always struggle to find a comfortable, affordable pair that will sit nicely on the waist, hips AND legs simultaneously.
The jean that I have been on the hunt for over the last two months is a good MOM jean. I love the vintage, relaxed style; the high-waisted fit is flattering on most body shapes (especially for people like me with wider hips as it draws attention to the slimmer waist) and the relaxed leg is more freeing than the skin-tight skinny jean.
You see them everywhere these days and yet when I tried to find my own pair, it was a real struggle.
I started at Topshop, renowned for their MOM jeans, yet the sizing was so random. I couldn’t even do up the button on my usual size 10 (such a soul destroying moment) and when I went a size up to the 12 they were huge on me – you could fit an extra half a person down the front and they were super baggy around the legs. Not hot.
It was the same situation at Zara and though at River Island the sizing was much better, every single pair was covered in rips. Not smart enough for the office there.
I then ordered a pair of Urban Outfitters’s BDG Vintage MOM Jeans to try on which were the first pair that I had come across that looked fine for my shape. But at £55, one of the more expensive on the high street, I didn’t want to settle with ‘fine’ for this price.
It was actually in Pull & Bear that I finally found the perfect pair. They fit snugly (not tightly) around the waist, skim neatly over the hips and have a slightly loose leg without looking stupidly baggy. All for just £25.99. The one snag is that the hole for the top button is slightly too small so you just need to spend a bit of extra time wiggling the button through and loosening it up. Otherwise, mission accomplished!

Let me know if there are any stores you always find great jeans in, I’m on the hunt for some straight legs with a frayed hem now!
